Identity Thief Review
Identity Thief is a road trip comedy directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses). Starring Jason Bateman (The Change Up) and Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly). Bateman stars as Sandy Patterson a clean cut family guy from Denver who gets his identity stolen from him by sociopath Diana (McCarthy) who is in Florida. Diana maxes out all of Sandy’s credit cards and gets into trouble with the law under his name. With his job at risk he is given one week to bring Diana back to Denver from Florida to face the authorities.
Despite many bad reviews I actually quite enjoyed this movie. It’s not one of the best comedies I have seen over the last twelve months but it did have quite a few laughs and a very sentimental ending. Personally I love Jason Bateman in a comedy but this movie was not as raunchy or crazy as his other movies such as The Change-Up which is where I think he excels. McCarthy has fantastic comedic timing and delivered some of the best moments in the movie. Particularly the way she defends herself by punching people in the throat. It is definitely worth a watch but don’t enter the cinema with your expectations too high or you will be disappointed.
