Evil
Dead Review
The much anticipated remake of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead
finally hit our screens this week. It was directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci,
Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.
A group of friends meet in
a cabin in the woods to help their friend Mia go cold turkey to break free from
her drug habit. As Mia has tried many times before to break the habit and
failed they know that once the horrors set in she will do anything to escape
the torment so they all agree that no matter what she says they will not let her
leave. When Mia keeps insisting there is a smell of death in the cabin the
friends don’t believe her but soon discover a basement full of dead cats hanging
from the roof they also uncover a book wrapped in a black thrash bag and
covered in barb wire. One of the friends, Eric, can’t resist and opens the book.
He reads a passage out load from the book which summons a demon who possess’
Mia and their night of gore and horror begins!!!!!!!!
Personally I am not a fan
of remakes but this one tops them all. I am not a massive fan of the Evil Dead either
so I was curious to see would a modern day version tickle my fancy a bit more. Well,
did it ever!!!!!! I thought this was a really good movie. The gore was unreal
so if you have a sensitive stomach stay well clear. I was delighted to see the
director kept it old school with the use of prosthetics and gallons of fake
blood. I could not see CGI in sight!! The humour element of the evil dead was
also kept alive in this remake. The tagline on the poster calls it the most
terrifying film you will ever experience….I wouldn’t go as far as calling it
that but I would definitely label it one of the goriest movies you will ever
experience. Worth a watch and will not be going in the remakes dumpster!!! Oh and don't make the same mistake I did of leaving before the credits as there is a surprise for you at the end!!
4/5
