Director: James Wan Starring: Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson
In The Conjuring 2 we revisit the files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for the story of The Enfield Poltergeist which took place in England in 1977. Peggy Hodgson a Mother of four has something evil in her home and when her child Janet starts to show signs of demonic possession she turns to the Warrens for help. The movie is based on a true story.
Well I am just home from The Conjuring 2 and I am on a pure adrenaline buzz, I feel like I've just been on a thrill ride and I don't want to get off!!
Director James Wan has done it again, making one of the best horror movies I have watched in years. When I recently interviewed writer and director Tom Holland (Fright Night, Psycho 2, Child's Play) we discussed that what many of the horror movies are missing now-a-days is heart and because James Wan knows how to inject this into his movies this is what makes them so great.
The chemistry between Farmiga and Wilson is simply fantastic. When you have two lead characters who you emotionally invest in then this is a recipe for success. Along with great performances, the atmosphere of this movie brings you back to the likes of The Exorcist and Amityville Horror. Wan really knows how to deliver the scares and gets the balance between atmosphere and jump scares just right.
For those of you who know the whole story of The Enfield Poltergeist you will see how well Wan incorporated all the well documented details of the case with the fictionalised elements of the story. As in every great movie the tension builds and builds throughout with a superb climax.
As I always say, in my eyes James Wan can do no wrong. A true master of horror!!
